Agriressource: learning to mobilize resources and improve quality of life
The associations involved in helping farmers in difficulties in 4 countries (France, Germany, Belgium, Austria) offer an innovative approach of counselling focused on individual. This is a «front line action» that aims to secure the professional and personal path of farmers in difficulty. Overview of the process :
- Answer the farmer’s call and listen to the request;
- Help the person analyze his situation, take the necessary distance and think critically about his own situation;
- Help the person solve problems by placing him at the heart of decisions.
European agriculture has faced many crisis over the last years and farmers are more and more to call these 4 associations. Mental health of farmers in difficulties is getting worse and worse each year.
In the 4 countries of the partnership, the organizations note that the mental health of farmers facing difficulties is very deteriorated and that the situations are more and more complex (suicide or suicidal intent, feeling of failure, helplessness, or non-recognition, anxiety, dissatisfaction.
La confiance en soi et l’estime de soi sont des facteurs reconnus favorables à une bonne santé mentale (source : OMS. Les risques pour la santé mentale : aperçu des vulnérabilités et des facteurs de risque, 2012).
Throughout 2016, the organizations met several times and resulted in the existence of both internal and external resources among supported farmers, who at one time promoted self-esteem and fostered decision making. The whole problem lies in the ability of organizations to promote the identification and mobilization of these resources.
Goals of the Erasmus + Project
In order to secure the path of the vulnerable farmers that the four associations support, and to help them to rebound in their lives, the project aims to:
- Allow people to adopt an appropriate attitude to the difficulties related to their job, whatever the level of these difficulties (economic, health, social, interpersonal, relational)
- Learn to identify, recognize and mobilize internal and external resources to cope with difficulties.
To do this, a training module for the target group has been designed, as well as an infographic available in 3 languages (French, German, English). This training module will eventually be able to enter the basic training of the counselors of our organizations.
